Old Cages

We have learned a lot through over time, building our own cages.  A lot about cage building, a lot about keeping the cages and the area around them clean and a lot about what our chins enjoy most in THEIR home.

Here are some of the cages we have built over the past few years.

This was one of the first cages we made.  It was 3 feet high by 2 feet by 2 feet.

You can see Chilly peeking out of her little house on the top shelf.  She loved this cage, and it had plenty of room for two chins.

But, as you can see from the floor around the bottom, it was impossible to keep all of her food, shavings and hay inside the cage.

So, we decided to go with melamine cages.  Much easier to clean!  And, we put a drawer in the bottom to hold all of their supplies.

And it is very easy to remove and relocate the shelves to give the chins some variety in their lives.

This cage here is 4 feet high, 3 feet wide and 2 feet deep.  It was a wonderful cage, but with limited space and an ever increasing chin population, we had to go a little smaller so we could more effectively use the space we currently have available (though I keep telling my husband if we bought a bigger house this would not be an issue).
